Eight Basic Rules of Interpretation

General Rules for More Than 2500 Years Now

What do the cults and off-base Christian churches have in common?  Theological and sociological abuses that ultimately stem from basic misunderstandings of Scripture.  Here are some general rules of interpretation that have been used for more than 2500 years.  There are more rules of interpretation for properly interpreting the Bible, but these will get you started in the right direction.

WIDE IS THE GATE: The Emerging New Christianity

wide_is_the_gate

A look into the invasion of the old New Age Movement  in today's Post Modern Church

A DVD SERIES FROM CARYL PRODUCTIONS

  • Volume 1, Volume 2 and Volume 3
The following is an excerpt the WIDE IS THE GATE page at Caryl Productions:

Video Journalist, Caryl Matrisciana, author of Out of India: A True Story about The New Age Movement interviews friends, well-known authors and experts in a bold and challenging new DVD. Caryl examines the intrusion of the 60's and 70's New Age Movement, steeped in its pagan eastern mysticism, and traces its morphing over the last 4 decades..from its repackaging as the Self Help Psychology, Wholistic Health Movements of the 80's, to its Seeker Friendly, Mega Church appearance in the 90's, to its coming out in the 21st century as The New Spirituality.  Its slick reinvention of "new truth" shows itself off today as a new "Emerging" Christianity, a Vintage, Ancient Future Movement that is supposedly taking us back to our "Christian" origins in the Desert Fathers of 300 years after Christ. Sadly, that "taking back" does not go back far enough. Missing is a return to the Early Church's foundation, birthed in Jerusalem, at Pentecost, 40 days after the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who at that time, filled His Believers with His Holy Spirit and instructions to go out, preach the Gospel and make disciples.

Coastal Cult Watch - Central California

Redefining the Biblical Jesus, reading verses out of context, loading biblical language with new age and occult definitions...this is the Kingdom of the Cults.  Biblical theology, when turned upside down and inside out, becomes everything but the truth.   Spiritual Research Network COASTAL CULT WATCH warns of religious groups,  movements and teachings that re-define the Person and Work of the Biblical Jesus Christ into what is not biblical. Read more here.  See also Exposing Pseudo-Christian Cults.

Rick Warren and Tony Blair 'waxing worse and worse:' (2 Tim. 3:13)

take_heed

Updated article with NEW APPENDIX by Cecil Andrews of "TAKE HEED MINISTRIES" 10/3/2011

The opening verse of chapter 3 of Paul’s second letter to Timothy reads – “this know that in the last days perilous times shall come”. Paul states quite clearly that during “the last days” all will not be well in the professing church. ‘The last days’ are generally accepted by biblical scholars as being ‘the church age’ – that time span between the ascension of Christ as recorded in Acts 1:9 and His return as detailed in 1st Thessalonians 4:16-18. The word “perilous” means ‘grievous’ as in the sense of ‘hard to deal with’ and ‘hard to bear’. Paul is warning God’s people that during the church age they should expect to be confronted with things being said and done in the name of Christ that will grieve them fiercely and intensely because such happenings will disturb the Spirit of God who indwells them as His true people.

False Teachings, Affiliations, P.E.A.C.E. Plan, Forum's, Inter-faithism, New Spirituality, Yoga, Breath Prayers, Contemplative, The Daniel Plan Diet, Tony Blair and more...

Many Christian ministries have been exposing these problems for years now, however, millions of church leaders will NOT warn about these errors and deception.

There are the two reasons why people won't tell the truth about this massive deception in the church and throughout the world.

1. IGNORANCE OF THE FACTS [ which can be found in the links below]
2. THE FEAR OF MAN [which is a result of walking in the flesh]

The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. (Provers 29:25)

For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.   (Galatians 1:10)

A Special Report By Lighthouse Trails Research and Roger Oakland

On March 7, 2011, Roger Oakland, founder of Understand the Times, International, and two other members from his ministry attended the Peace in a Globalized Society forum at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, which featured Rick Warren and special guest, former UK prime minister Tony Blair. Roger Oakland and his co-workers obtained eye-witness seats at the event that included well over 2000 people in attendance. Although cameras and recorders were not allowed in the main sanctuary where the interview took place, the UTT team took notes.  Read entire Special Report here.    Click here for many resources here.

Thoughts For Young Men by J.C. Ryle (1816-1900)

When the Apostle Paul wrote his Epistle to Titus about his responsibility as a minister, he mentioned young men as a group requiring particular attention. After speaking of older men and older women, and young women, he adds this advice, "Encourage the young men to be self-controlled" (Titus 2:6). I am going to follow the Apostle's advice. I propose to offer a few words of friendly exhortation to young men....I am growing old myself, but there are few things that I can remember so well as were the days of my youth...                                                    Read Thoughts For Young Men!

There are four things which I propose to do:

I. I will mention some general reasons why young men need exhorting.
II. I will note some special dangers which young men need to be warned about.
III. I will give some general counsel which I beg young men to receive.
IV. I will set down some special rules of conduct which I strongly advise young men to follow.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Movie Review Part 1 by Berit Kjos

Dark, dismal, demonic, deadly.... There's no sign of joy in this disturbing movie! Yet it captivates children, stirs love for evil, and arouses irresistible craving for more stimuli and ever darker thrills.[5]  Why are the forces of evil so enticing?  "These are dark times..." declared Rufus Scrimgeour, the Minister of Magic (rumored to be a vampire), as the movie begins. "Our world has never faced a greater threat."[4]  He's right in more ways than one. That solemn warning could be applied to at least three different spiritual battlefields:

  • Lord Voldemort's murderous domain.

  • Harry Potter's lighter, more deceptive face of the occult.

  • Today's embattled world, where love for occult entertainment is fast becoming more acceptable than God's Truth.

The Five Basic Doctrines - Compiled and Written by Sandy Simpson

This is an excellent primer article recommended for everyone, especially pastors and Church Elders, who are supposed to faifhfully preach the Word (2 Timothy 4) and shepherd God's Church (Acts 20:28), warn against  deceivers inside and outside the Church who ravage the Church of God (Acts 20:25-31).

Written by veteran missionary Sandy Simpson, Director of the Apologetics Coordination Team, this article delineates very, very clearly just what the Five Basic Doctrines of the Christian faith are.  This is recommended reading for Church leaders and laypeople alike.  Reading this article will help strengthen your faith, remove doubts you may have, clarify what is of God and what teachings are not, and thoroughly point you straight back the the written Word of God and to Jesus Christ our Lord.

This is also an excellent resource that pastors and Bible teachers can use to equip church congregations.  It is jam packed with Scripture and is in outline format.  For more resources like this as well as 1500 plus discernment articles, please visit the Apologetics Coordination Team website.

Brian McLaren and Richard Foster's Editorial Team Agree with Lighthouse Trails - Contemplative Prayer and Eastern Mysticism Are Same Thing By Lighthouse Trails

The headline in this article may seem preposterous - Brian McLaren and two other contemplative prayer proponents (Richard Rohr and Phyllis Tickle) agreeing with what Lighthouse Trails has been trying to say for eight years now? That the same contemplative prayer which is advocated by mainstream Christian leaders (Beth Moore, Chuck Swindoll, Rick Warren, Focus on the Family, etc) is the very same thing as eastern mysticism (i.e., Hinduism/Buddhism).  How can we say such a statement?

In a book that was released this year titled The Big Book of Christian Mysticism, author Carl McColman (a former self-proclaimed pagan who converted to contemplative Catholicism) states that "no absolutely clear distinction can be drawn between Christian and non-Christian mysticism" (p. 64). In others words, they are basically the same thing. This is exactly what Lighthouse Trails has been attempting to warn against for many years.

Is Your Denomination A Sinking Denomination?  By Roger Oakland

The Titanic was one of the greatest ships that has ever sailed the seas. When built it was considered unsinkable. Today, when the name Titanic is mentioned, we think of one thing – the boat that was, is no more. It’s at the bottom of the sea. What a legacy!

The name “Titanic” has become synonymous with the idea that a disaster can be avoided. You see, the sinking of the Titanic provides an analogy of what can happen to human aspirations when humbled by circumstances. A great ship that was deemed to be unsinkable – sank because it hit an iceberg. The disaster did not have to happen if proper precautions had been taken.

Ghost Nights: Real Ghost Hunting, Paranormal, Poltergeists, Hauntings and more

Yes, this photo is from a real poster that I saw on a wall outside of a Church in Northern England.  Sadly, many Church-goers attend Church on Sunday morning, and then the Seance' on Sunday evening.  Millions of people are enamoured these days by Ghost Hunters, Mediums, Poltergeists, and more - on the Television and off.  If only they knew the hazardous of what happens to those who seeks out the world of spiritism and poltergeists.

Note from SRN for Sensitive Readers

Read articles on the dangers of the occult, astrology, Ouija board, alternative medicine, and much, much more.

Instead of hunting Ghosts, which are in reality demons masquerading as 'departed human spirits', one ought to yield to the biblical Jesus Christ, the All-sufficient Savior, the only mediator between God and mankind:

"We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest [Jesus] had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God...because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy" (Hebrews 10:10-14).

Extensive Warning Listing of Potentially Harmful, Dangerous and Deadly Spiritual Practices

SRN issues a warning about the following topics because they are either one, two, three, or all four of the following:

  1.  Mystical and supernaturalistic health related methods
  2.  Founded on occult principles
  3.  Dangerous forms of occult and mystical practices
  4.  Based on the writings and beliefs associated with either paganism, spiritism, occultism or mysticism.

If you have been involved in any of the practices or beliefs found on this page we recommend that you read our SRN 'Strong Warning Statement'.

The Importance Of Understanding Scripture

A simple definition of Hermeneutics is “the branch of knowledge that deals with interpretation, especially of the Bible or literary texts.” The following article seeks to explain why a proper understanding of Biblical Hermeneutics is important. We will look at the qualities we should seek and bring to our Scripture reading.

The Emerging Church: A Trojan Horse and Its Contemplative Mysticism Cargo

trojan_horse_in_the_church

Examining the Theology and Dangers of Contemplative Emerging Church Spirituality:  We offer this information in a spirit, not of contention, but of humility and love, which we propose by God's grace to maintain in any future dialogue arising out of what we have posted.   "The Emerging Church Movement is the Trojan Horse within modern Christendom.  Contemplative spirituality and its mystical and Eastern occult influences are the cargo that is being downloaded en masse to the undiscerning."   LTRP soberly reminds us:  "...But remember interspirituality is the outcome of contemplative prayer and is the uniting of all religions and the denial that Jesus Christ as the only way of salvation. So many of the scholars who are analyzing the emerging church may be missing something that is right under their noses. Want to find out where the emerging church is really heading ... you are going to have to look beyond the obvious. When you reach that destination, you may be in for the shock of your life."

False Prophet Todd Bentley and His Gnostic Occult Anointing Revival Ministry

Over the last 20 years I have researched many forms of spiritual deception, the nature and abuses of cults, the hazardous that result from occultism, etc.  After extensive research into Todd Bentley's ministry behavior and outlandish teachings, it is my personal opinion that the manifestations occurring at his church and crusades are exactly like the types of behaviour displayed by demon possessed individuals, shamanic trance dancers, yoga gurus [and hyper-Pentacostals] experiencing Kundalini-shakti awakening, Laughter Yoga practitioners, and idol worshippers experiencing various stages of occult phenomena and possession states.   Furthermore, many people at Todd Bentley's "revival" meetings are displaying the same types of behavior that those who have lost their minds in occult ashram's display - mindless, animalistic, sensory overload chaos.  Many people at these meetings lose control of their basic body motor skills and they jerk, vibrate, shake and move spasmodically...

Do Christian Leaders Understand The Contemplative Prayer Movement?

Do Christian leaders understand the dangers of the Contemplative Prayer - Contemplative Spirituality [Spiritual Formation] movement?  It appears that countless numbers of them do not.  Countless others do not seem to care and others are hostile to those who expose the dangers of this so-called, ancient-future spirituality.   Lighthouse Trails clearly defines Contemplative Spirituality this way:  Contemplative Spirituality: A belief system that uses ancient mystical practices to induce altered states of consciousness (the silence) and is rooted in mysticism and the occult but often wrapped in Christian terminology. The premise of contemplative spirituality is pantheistic (God is all) and panentheistic (God is in all).

The Spirit of Truth Set Me Free From the False Anointing

By Chris Lawson

Before I became a Christian, I was overcome by a powerful occult experience that nearly led to my death in a California desert.  Two years later, as a new, yet undiscerning Christian, I had an equally powerful occult experience - only this time it was in a hyper-faith Christian church.  At the whim and amped up touch of a so-called “anointed”, Latter-Rain, Joel's Army prophet, I experienced full force what many spiritual seekers today call “the anointing”.   But what anointing was this and what on earth was "Joel's Army"?   Read in context the entire book of Joel had nothing to do with what this preacher was preaching!   Read article...

The Shack: Exposing Pagan, Occult and New Age Teachings in The Shack

William P. Young's best selling book The Shack is considered by many solid Bible-based ministries to contain New Age, pagan teachings, and even occult overtones.

eresy and false teaching of any kind should never be permitted in any Christian Church [or Christian bookstore] regardless of whether or not it is fiction.

s a result of The Shack's acceptance in many Christian [and non-Christian] circles, we have created this web page in order to help expose the false teachings in The Shack.    To date, many people have written and thank us for doing so.  View articles from different ministriies that have exposed the heresies!

Christian Yoga: Rooted in Hindu Occutlism (Part 1)

By Chris Lawson

This article is also written with heartfelt grief and concern for those whom I have lovingly warned about the dangers of yoga, but who have rejected biblical counsel, pastoral exhortation, brotherly advice, testimony of destroyed lives, written warnings from yogi’s of the dangers involved with yoga, etc.  This past year I have received several emails from people whose lives have become dismantled due to yoga practice...

Redefining Jesus Christ:  The Biblical Jesus Versus The Counterfeits

More than any other time in history, the world today is filled with false ideas and concepts of who Jesus Christ really is. What Paul the Apostle called "another Jesus, a different spirit, and different gospel" has plagued the world.  The purpose of this article is to point us back to the Bible and back to the Biblical Jesus!...

Spiritual Research Network, Inc. with Chris Lawson serves to equip the Church with sound biblical teaching and warns of the dangers of cults, false teachers, the occult and mysticism based spirituality.
