As a result of a tremendous loss of almost all of our missions support, I have had to start my own business in order to provide for my family. Previous to this I tried unsuccessfully for six months to get a job in the secular workplace. Sadly it seems that being a Christian Pastor for the last 12 years wasn't too popular on my resume'.
Some of the negative responses from employers were incredible. With the name of Christ being so maligned in our culture because of heretic money preachers and false Christianity being so prevalent, many people just simply shake their heads at "Christians". God have mercy on us in these last days!
Currently I am not salaried at all through SRN. The funds that are given on behalf of the SRN ministry are used to cover administrative, telephone, and internet costs.
With much sadness, I have had to spend close to all of my time away from researching and writing, away from correspondence, away from our new Podcasting episodes, and away from developing a new hardcopy newsletter. We just simply do not have the support needed through SRN to salary one person and accomplish what we would like to.
As I think about the last 20 years of my life, most of the people I have ministered to as a Christian and as a leader have been - other Christians. A large number of the people we have helped through the years have come to us for help after being hurt by false teaching, hyper-faith charismania chicanery, lying signs and wonders money preachers, abusive churches, unbalanced ministries, etc. It has been a joy to point many people back to the BIble and the real Jesus of Scripture.
Unfortunately, although we help many people and do so regardless of being "salaried", in just the last two years, my full time salary as a Bible teaching pastor and missionary has gone to zero. We have no ministry salary now after being in full time ministry for close to 11 years.
To note, our overseas Scotland Missions support began to decline sharply as a result of us exposing Contemplative Spirituallity, Purpose Driven Church heresies, The New Apostolic Reformation heresies of C. Peter Wagner and others, The Word Faith Cult heresies of Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, and others, etc.
A few churches and a number of individuals began to either put monetary pressure on us or just simply dump us as missionaries. All was running somewhat smoothly for us as missionaries until we drew the line in the sand - in relation to modern day heretics in the church. Exposing the filth that is destroying believers and further destroying non-believers is not too popular these days. In fact, other Biblical ministries are losing support too.
I am reminded of Paul the Apostle who once stated, "...though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved." It seems that our personal ministry has fast become something similiar to what Paul expressed to the believers at Corinth...
"And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved."
Ministry support or not, I am happy to serve my family, provide for them, wait and trust in God as HE builds our ministry, and continue to live and obey God and not men.
