"Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?
This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump."
(Galatians 5:7-9 KJV)
"For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years
I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears."
(Acts 20:29-31 KJV)
"Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof:
from such turn away."

Introduction: Not Complaining But Proactively Addressing Compromises
Many years ago Pastor Chuck Smith's long-time associate, Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa's Associate Pastor, L.E. Romaine, once told me personally"Don't complain about it unless you first try to do something about it." Pastor Romaine was exhorting us (pastors) not to complain about anything, unless we seek first to aright the situation, no matter what it is. Obviously, the Bible says we are not to grumble and complain, and Romaine knew that too. Romaine was simply communicating to us that we ought to deal with issues and not make messes in the church; theological, or otherwise. The following material is not meant to be a complaint, but an introduction as to why Calvary Chapel is not standing against Ecumenical compromises. I am not complaining, I am telling the truth.
For the record, I have tried to do something about the issues I am presenting here for years now (2004-2012). Some may say I am wasting my time; however, I have persisted because I care about the countless people who are being confused and spiritually damaged by the many leaders who either won't apologize for their theological compromises or heavy-handed leadership, or both. When people in Calvary Chapels (and other churches) address ecumenical compromises, pastors either resist and reject accountability, or they obey the LORD, yielding to the principle of biblical separation from aberrant and false teachers/teaching. What I and many others have seen and experienced firsthand, and continue to see, in leaders who are unrepentant, is incredible and thoroughly inexcusable. I personally know numerous pastors that see the problems and yet sit back and remain silent and comfortable, watching from afar and doing nothing.
Based on the sociological dynamics of what occurs when one stands up and attempts to deal with the compromises, it is truly apparent that many are caught in a snare - that snare being the fear of man and fear of being ostracized by bigger name, "higher up" pastors.
"The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe" (Proverbs 29:25).
"Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD" (Jeremiah 17:5).
"A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident" (Proverbs 14:16).
"Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart" (Ephesians 6:5-6).
"Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God; And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons." (Colossians 3:22-25).
"These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue" (John 9:22).
The remedy for this plague in the church however is a healthy and truly reverential fear of Almighty God:
"And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day. And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us." (Deuteronomy 6:24-25).
"And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee" (Acts 10:22).
"And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear" (Philippians 1:14).
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7).
"By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith" (Hebrews 11:7).
"Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear..." (1 Peter 1:16-17).
"Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king" (1 Peter 2:17).
My Personal Attempt to Warn Calvary Chapel Leaders and Intervene Through CCOF Ministry
Over the past six months (August 2011 to January 2012) I have tried on a very personal level "behind the scenes" to address compromises within the Calvary Chapel movement. My biblical concerns, extensive documentation, and pleas to be heard have been heard by numerous pastors who could very easily stop the ecumenical compromises, but they have blatantly chosen not to - even outright rejecting accountability when more than enough evidence has been presented.
Unfortunately, many Calvary Chapel pastors will do nothing about these ecumenical compromises that their comrades are making for fear of being ostracized. How do I know? Because pastors have contacted me and told me directly. I have seen firsthand and heard many times over how this dynamic occurs amongst pastors and within pastors meetings. Remaining silent and not confronting one another about ecumenical issues, aberrant literature in church bookstores, etc. seems to stir things up too much.
Also, those whom I have personally confronted about neo-Evangelical ecumenical compromises, as well as heavy-handed leadership, have done absolutely nothing about it. Sadly people continue to leave numerous Calvary Chapel's and many of the fellowships suffer from unbalanced leadership. We continue to receive e-mails and phone calls from confused, broken, and frustrated Calvary Chapel attendees or former attendees. Their stories simply confirm all that this article addresses.
"But this thou hast, that thou [Church of Ephesus] hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes [conquerors of the laity], which I also hate" (Revelation 2:6).
"So hast [Church in Pergamos] thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes [conquerors of the laity], which thing I hate. Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth" (Revelation 2:15, 16).
Furthermore, I personally contacted Calvary Chapel Outreach Fellowships, Inc. (CCOF Ministry) about these issues. You see, I was a Calvary Chapel Pastor for 14 years. I had been told (as are all Calvary Chapel pastors) numerous times through the years that if I saw any theological problems or church leadership issues that needed serious addressing, I should contact CCOF Ministry and report my concerns in a humble and well-documented manner. So I did. I contacted CCOF Ministry about the major problem (and ensuing confusion in the body of Christ) of allowing extreme ecumenists to speak in Calvary Chapel pulpits and at Calvary Chapel conferences. I informed them about Lt. Gen. (Ret.) William "Jerry" Boykin's ministry associations, and I also asked several simple questions about Calvary Chapel's perspective on Greg Laurie speaking at Lifest with Roman Catholic priest Bishop David Ricken (Catholic Diocese of Green Bay). Bishop Ricken performed a Roman Catholic Eucharistic Adoration service replete with the Sacrifice of the Mass, robes, candles, etc., on the exact same morning before Greg Laurie preached.
"But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some" (2 Timothy 2:16-18).
"A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself" (Titus 3:10-11).
"Now the [Holy] Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth" (1 Timothy 4:1-3).
Facts Were Demanded, And Facts Were Given
To say the least, my questions were by no means welcomed. In fact, I was yelled at on the telephone and "facts" were demanded of me regarding my research and concerns. I then presented them with a large amount of clearly written and thoroughly documented information. Nothing was done then about the ecumenical compromises and nothing has been done since.
What has transpired however is that Jerry Boykin continues to speak at Calvary Chapel conferences, Greg Laurie appears to be above accountability and is not open for comment about his endorsement of the extremely dangerous book by Steve and Sarah Berger, Have Heart - bridging the gulf between heaven and earth (Necromancy via "clairaudience"- listening to spirit beings), and an increasing number of Calvary Chapel pastors are rejecting people who are warning them and their leadership about Calvary Chapel ecumenism, the Purpose Driven movement, contemplative spirituality, New Age/New Spirituality in the church, and problematic books and authors, etc.
It is becoming more and more apparent that Calvary Chapel Outreach Fellowship is unwilling to change and warn God's flock. Had they taken a firm stand and stuck with it several years ago they would not have the immense problems that they do today. It can rightly be said that if the leaders at the helm refuse to heed the warnings about ecumenical compromise, it is either time for new leaders, or time to get off the sinking ship.
"As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,... This charge [command] I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme" (1 Timothy 1:3, 18-20).
Will 'Courage' or 'Cowardice' Be What Calvary Chapel Pastors are Remembered For?
The 'Titanic' and the more recent 'Costa Concordia' are somber reminders of what happens when things go from great to horrific. When the Titanic sank, at least Captain Edward John Smith had enough courage to help terrified people off of his ship. Although it is uncertain exactly how Captain Smith died, it is safe to say that he probably froze to death along with the 1515 other people who died when the Titanic sank. The Titanic sank at 2.20 AM on April 15, 1912.
It is now 100 years later (2012) and the Costa Concordia, the humungous Italian ocean liner, recently ran aground. The 'Coward Captain' as he is now called, left his ship before hundreds of his passengers were off the ship. When commanded by higher authorities to get back on the ship, the Captain flat out refused. Recorded testimony and the Captains actions verify this. Now, "Prosecutors want 'Captain Coward' Francesco Schettino jailed for a total of 2,697 years as they made a request to have him sent back to jail..."
Unlike brave Captain Edward John Smith of the Titanic, Francesco Schettino has become known as a coward the world over. In a somewhat similar manner, and it is grievous to say this, a growing number of Calvary Chapel pastors are appearing more and more like 'Captain Coward' Schettino - who waited far too long to tell passengers to exit the ship, and then bailed on the remaining passengers to save his own life. Captains are supposed to remain with their ships, until the last passenger is safe.
Why on earth are so many Calvary Chapel pastors simply refusing to display biblical courage and do something about the Calvary Chapel compromises? It seems that the majority of them (there are some exceptions) are just sitting back to go along for the ride, waiting for "others" (CCOF perhaps?) to say something. But is there someone at CCOF ministry who has the courage to speak up?
One wonders just how long things will remain with the growing Calvary Chapel neo-Evangelical status quo. If things go on much longer without biblical change for the better, cowardice among Calvary Chapel pastors and leaders could soon be recognized as the standard the world over, and will possibly be written into the annals of church history. Perhaps it already is!
It should be noted here that there are many well meaning godly men serving in the Calvary Chapel movement, but a number of big name pastors and leaders are clearly compromising biblical standards and tainting the good reputation of many. I fear that many well meaning Calvary Chapel pastors are not aware at all of what has become of the men who are resisting the implementation of biblical separation from ecumenists. It appears that those who are resisting to do what Scripture commands have become what the extremely courageous Christian missionary C.T. Studd (1860-1931) once described as "Chocolate Soldiers."
The following is the beginning of C.T. Studd's scathing denunciation of "soft" Christianity that chooses not to take a real stand for the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word.
The Chocolate Soldier or Heroism - The Lost Chord of Christianity
by C.T. Studd
"Heroism is the lost chord; the missing note of present-day Christianity!"
"Every true soldier is a hero! A SOLDIER WITHOUT HEROISM IS A CHOCOLATE SOLDIER! Who has not been stirred to scorn and mirth at the very thought of a Chocolate Soldier? In peace true soldiers are captive lions, fretting in their cages. War gives them their liberty and sends them, like boys bounding out of school, to obtain their heart's desire or perish in the attempt. Battle is the soldier's vital breath! Peace turns him into a stooping asthmatic. War makes him a whole man again, and gives him the heart, strength, and vigour of a hero.
EVERY TRUE CHRISTIAN IS A SOLDIER—of Christ—a hero "par excellence!" Braver than the bravest—scorning the soft seductions of peace and her oft-repeated warnings against hardship, disease, danger, and death, whom he counts among his bosom friends.
THE OTHERWISE CHRISTIAN IS A CHOCOLATE CHRISTIAN! Dissolving in water and melting at the smell of fire. "Sweeties" they are! Bonbons, lollipops! Living their lives on a glass dish or in a cardboard box, each clad in his soft clothing, a little frilled white paper to preserve his dear little delicate constitution."
The apostles were certainly not "Chocolate Christians," and they definitely obeyed the Lord in boldly declaring the truth, regardless of the consequences.
"In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul." (Psalm 138:3).
"The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion." (Proverbs 28:1).
"But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?" (John 7:26).
"And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word..." (Acts 4:29).
"Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus" (Acts 14:13).
"And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost [Spirit], and they spake the word of God with boldness" (Acts 4:31).
"Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles" (Acts 13:46).
"Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness [boldness] of speech—" (2 Corinthians 3:12).
"Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation" (2 Corinthians 7:4).
"Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you: But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled." (2 Corinthians 10:1-6).
"For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." (Philippians 1:19-21).
"For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a good standing and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 3:13).
The Root Cause is Lack of Biblical Separatism
The biblical principle of "separation" begins in chapter one of the Bible, and continues to Revelation 22, the end of the Bible. God utilizes separation in the creation account, with His people the Israelites, and with the Bride of Christ - the church. In various ways, God either implements separation Himself, or through His people. God commands it, and we are to obey Him!
"So Samuel said: “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to harken [heed] than the fat of rams" (1 Samuel 15:22).
"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God" (2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1).
So too, in many places in Scripture, God commands separation from false and aberrant teachings and teachers and false prophets. Those who profess to follow Christ but are unwilling to separate from false teachers and false teachings are clearly in error. They themselves, no matter how popular they are, should also be exposed. Why? They are a threat to the body of Christ because they allow false teachers and false teachings to come into the church. Here are but three examples of God the Holy Spirit warning the church.
"Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen" (Romans 16:17-20).
"Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ" (Jude 3-4).
Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am [innocent] pure from the blood of all men. For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in[from outside the church] among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves[from within the church] shall men arise, speaking perverse things,to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears" (Acts 20:26-31).
On the Internet and in published literature, one can now find many articles that reveal just how far many modern day church leaders have gone in not separating from unbiblical teachings and aberrant and false teachers. There is simply no excuse for Calvary Chapel ecumenical compromises. This documentation (see section at end of this article) deals with the problems of interfaith dialogue, ecumenical compromise, Jerry Boykin's close-knit associations with false prophet Rick Joyner and the ecumenical Knights Hospitallers, Calvary Chapel's neglect of standing firm for sound doctrine and against Purpose Driven, contemplative spirituality, and much more.
Biblical preachers and church elders are supposed to prevent such things, not endorse, promote, and participate in them. It should long be remembered that those who refuse to make a public stand against false teachers, strange doctrines, and ecumenism, have already made a stand to allow it into the church.
The biblical standard is preaching, reproving, rebuking, and exhorting with all long suffering and sound doctrine. The principles that Jesus and the Apostles and God's prophets have always used have been warning and teaching and warning and teaching - not just teaching, teaching, teaching. Far too many in the church today simply teach and teach and teach, and either forget to warn altogether or purposely refuse to warn in order to remain popular and politically correct.
Neglecting to warn the church and protect God's people from false teachers, antichrists and counterfeit watchmen who masquerade as popular Christian conference speakers is a horrible thing indeed. Sharing speaking platforms with such not only confuses masses of people, but it destroys godly reputations and repulses those who faithfully walk with the Lord. Calvary Chapel pastors and others who claim to teach the whole counsel of God are no exception to the rule. If they share speaking platforms with avowed Ecumenists, false teachers, New Age/New Spirituality sympathizers and the like, they will destroy their own reputations and drive the name of the fellowships where they serve straight into the ground. It is happening now on a very large scale, and the amount of people leaving the Calvary Chapel movement continues to grow.
At the beginning and the end of the day, God's Word is clear - faithful men of God are to warn of error, and teach the truth. Anything less is not God's will for the biblical preacher, teacher, evangelist and church elder. Those who want to confuse the body of Christ and blow the trumpet of confusion, should sincerely consider again what the Word of God instructs:
"I charge [command] thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry" (2 Timothy 4:1-5).
"To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily" (Colossians 1:27-29).
It is one thing to stand firm in sound doctrine out of love for the Lord Jesus Christ, and it is altogether another to tolerate that which God hates. To the corrupt church at Thyatira God's rebuke was clear about their sin was - toleration of evil and not making a stand against it. Sadly, the same can be said about many popular churches and personalities today.
“And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write, ‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow..." (Revelation 2:18).

Creating a New Society: Change Agents and Influence Peddlers (By Carl Teichrib, February 2012) - "Social engineering, an activity of shifting the mind and heart of individuals and thus changing personal and group behavior - is a progressive endeavor. But please don’t misunderstand. This isn’t about “revolution” in a violent sense. Rather, it’s a process of incremental action that cumulatively moves toward the goal of a “better world” or the “good society.” "
Global Ecumenism: The High Road to Trampling Truth Underfoot(By Chris Lawson, January, 2012) - "The term “ecumenism” comes from the Greek word ο?κουμ?νη (oikoumene), meaning “the inhabited earth,” “the whole inhabited world” or “the inhabited or habitable earth or world” “A particular inhabited country (Luke 2:1; Acts 11:28).” The word occurs in the New Testament in Luke 2:1, where it is translated as “all the world.” In Scripture the word was historically used in reference to the then known world of the Roman Empire. Luke the physician (and historian) who penned the book of Acts and also the book of Luke uses the word this way in Luke chapter two: “And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world [oikoumene, meaning “the inhabited earth”] should be taxed [registered]. (And this taxing [census] was first made when Cyrenius [Quirinius] was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed [registered], every one into his own city” (Luke 2:1-3 KJV).

A Closer Look at Have Heart - bridging the gulf between heaven and earth: Articles, Book Reviews and Concerns from Pastors, Teachers and Christian Apologetics Ministries(Commentary Notes and Article Compilation by Chris Lawson, January 2012) - "Can Christians, like those who are involved in occult practices, hear communications from, and sense the 'presence' of, deceased loved ones? Or are these communications and feelings of 'presence' received through (occult; hidden) clairaudience and clairsentience? The material on this webpage seeks to address experiences (from any and all) and Christian nomenclature (words) that has been put forth in order to endorse the alleged initiating contact of the spirits of deceased loved ones with those who are living on our side of deaths door. Just who really is visiting Christians and what is the means by which these visitations are occurring? These are the primary questions this growing webpage seeks to address."
Countering the Counter Reformation in the Midst of Evangelical Christianity(By Roger Oakland, January 8, 2012) - "While I am sometimes accused of being a “Catholic-basher,” this is not my desire, nor my intention. I have a number of Roman Catholic acquaintances, and I care for them very much. I also have a number of Evangelical and Protestant acquaintances, and I care about them equally as well. However, in both cases, if a true understanding of the Gospel according to the Scriptures is not present in their lives, then their views will not be biblical—it won’t matter what they call themselves. For the record, my desire is to follow Jesus Christ and His Word and no man, no matter who he is. Likewise, I desire my acquaintances to do the same. It is love, not hate, that motivates me to share the Gospel with them, for there is only one Gospel that truly saves."
Book Review: “Have Heart” by Steve Berger – Endorsed by Chuck Missler and Greg Laurie, But Sadly Normalizes Necromancy (Communicating with the dead) - (Series by Larry DeBruyn, Lighthouse Trails posting on January 4, 2012) - "LTRP Note: The following book review on Steve Berger’s new book, Have Heart, was difficult for Larry DeBruyn to write because Have Heart talks about the death of Berger’s son. But because the book is endorsed by two top-name trusted evangelical leaders – Calvary Chapel Greg Laurie and Koinonia House Chuck Missler – and because the book normalizes having communication with the dead, we believe DeBruyn’s succinct, and yet sensitive, book review is needed. In a day when New Age ideas, panentheism, universalism, and mysticism have become accepted ideologies by countless Christians, the message in Have Heart - that we can have communication with our passed away loved ones – will not give biblical understanding to grieving parents and other readers but rather will further fuel the fires of deception so prevelant in today’s church."

Keep Thy Heart with All Diligence(By David Dombrowski, December 21, 2011) - "A growing and subtle tactic that is actually producing more “bridges” is to invite speakers of differing values, perspectives, and doctrines to the same conference and thereby make the speaker of compromised or apostate teachings appear more credible."

Breakforth Conference in Canada – Causing Confusion by Mixing Truth with Apostasy (By Lighthouse Trails, November 7, 2011) - "Lighthouse Trails has written in the past about Breakforth, an annual conference that takes place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada each year, because of its promotion of emerging and contemplative speakers. What makes this conference even more spiritually dangerous is that the speaker list is a mixture of truth and apostasy. For example, one year both Kay Arthur and Tony Campolo shared the platform. When we contacted Arthur’s ministry, we were told that she will speak anywhere she is invited to share her message. Another year, Joel Rosenberg and Frank Peretti shared the platform with Leonard Sweet, a New Age sympathizing colleague of Rick Warren’s and William Paul Young, author of The Shack. Rosenberg’s defense: he’ll speak anywhere he is invited to."
Will the Evangelical Church Sell Out the Gospel for a Dominionist Political Agenda?: A Special Report by Understand the Times and Lighthouse Trails (By Lighthouse Trails, August 14, 2011) - "As America is quickly approaching another presidential election year, some interesting things are taking place within evangelical/Protestant Christianity that are connected to next year’s election. Dominionist/Kingdom Now political and religious figures are joining forces with evangelical Christian groups. While having concern for the state of America is more than legitimate, will Christians replace commitment and loyalty to the Gospel for commitment and loyalty to a dominionist agenda? If they do, they will learn the hard way that compromise and a “whatever it takes” attitude will do more harm to the cause of Jesus Christ than good."
The Warning (By Roger Oakland, July 26, 2011) - "There is a pattern we find throughout the Word of God. God always warns before He brings judgment on sinful man. God is merciful and never reacts quickly without giving sinners a chance to repent. While He hates sin, He has often allowed men to carry on even if they do not respond. However there are always consequences of sin. The Bible states that the wages of sin is death. Often sin is exposed publically, and others are reminded to get right with God."
Green Bay Catholic Priest David Ricken leads Mass at Lifefest Before Joint Worship with Greg Laurie (Posted on Lighthouse Trails, July 12, 2011) - "LTRP Note: Today, a pastor sent Lighthouse Trails the link to the following news article. In view of our article on 7/11/11, “The Jesuit Agenda and the Evangelical/Protestant Church,” we post this news item. Bishop David Ricken who led Mass at Lifefest is on the Bishops Advisory Council at Creighton University, a Jesuit school."

The Pope’s New Evangelization Program: Bishop Ricken, Greg Laurie and Calvary Chapel (By Roger Oakland, July 5, 2011) - "One of the main goals we have at Understand The Times is to analyze the news in light of insights found in the Word of God. With regard to Bible prophecy, we should be very aware that doctrines of demons are taking place as part of the great falling away. Even those who have been known for teaching the Word of God can will be misled as they get caught up in this Last Days apostasy..Recently an article caught my attention with regard to Rome’s New Evangelization program. This program, put into place by Pope John Paul II, is still being promoted by Pope Benedict XVI in order to bring people to the Roman Catholic Eucharistic Jesus through a variety of plans."
New Book and Upcoming Conference Bring More Confusion Out of Calvary Chapel Movement(By Lighthouse Trails, June 24, 2011) - "In 2006, Calvary Chapel made a public stand against [See below - May 26, 2006] contemplative spirituality and the emerging church; they also stated: ”The teaching and positions of Rick Warren have come into conflict with us at Calvary Chapel. Pastor Chuck has directed us to discontinue this product effective immediately. Chuck Smith read Deceived on Purpose, A Time of Departing, and Faith Undone and found them right on. In a number of radio programs, Smith favorably acknowledged the work of Lighthouse Trails, and in private e-mails to editors at Lighthouse Trails, he made his support of our work and warnings to the body of Christ evident. But over the past few years, several confusing things have taken place that leave many wondering just what direction the Calvary Chapel movement is really heading. An upcoming conference called Twelve: 2011 Global Online Gathering held by Saddleback Church and Rick Warren is another example of why many people are becoming increasingly confused about Calvary Chapel."
Open Letter To Evangelical and Protestant Pastors Worldwide – Now is the Day to Turn Back to God’s Word (By Roger Oakland, May, 31, 2011) - "The following letter is to all Bible-believing pastors throughout the world who have been or are being influenced by current trends that are attacking the Word of God through the postmodern humanistic mystical belief system. I have witnessed this deception firsthand on a worldwide basis but am most familiar with what has been happening in the two fellowships I have been part of for the past thirty years – one in Canada and one based in southern California."

SPECIAL REPORT: Rick Warren’s “Apologetics” Weekend Should Apologize for Representing “Another Gospel” (By Lighthouse Trails, December 30, 2010) - "Dear Lighthouse Trails Reader: This is our last Special Report for 2010. It may be the most important article we have written all year. It is long and detailed, but we hope you will take the time to read it. Please consider distributing it to those in your own mailing lists who may be interested in the welfare of the church today."
Exponential Conference 2010 – Propelling the New Spirituality into the Church (By Lighthouse Trails, January 26, 2010) - "On April 19-22, in Orlando Florida, Exponential 2010 will present a large number of speakers, many of whom are proponents of the New Spirituality. Just another effort to build momentum for what has become obvious to many discerning believers - an apostate leadership racing toward a “New Christianity” for millions of unsuspecting proclaiming Christians."
More Questions About Break Forth Canada (By Pastor Adam Gislason, November 28, 2009) - "A good friend of mine recently emailed me and posed this question about Joel Rosenberg speaking at the Break Forth Canada Conference that is being held January 29-31, 2010 in Edmonton, Alberta: “If Rosenberg can wake thousands up at this conference, wouldn’t that be a good thing?” It’s a good question, but in order to answer that question, we need to ask ourselves a couple of other really important questions: First, is this a “Christian Conference?”..."
A Pastor & Rosenberg-Supporter Pleads: Please Don’t Go to Break Forth - Special Commentary (By Pastor Adam Gislason, Posted at Lighthouse Trails on November 21, 2009) - "This is a hard blog for me to write and let me clearly state that this isn’t just about Joel Rosenberg. This blog is about all Christian leaders who are participating in the Break Forth Canada Conference January 29-31, 2010 and other similar conferences who are justifying sharing the pulpit with false teachers and who are promoting these conferences on their websites and blogs as “Christian Conferences.”"
Another Break Forth Response: What Fellowship Can Light Have With Darkness? (By Lighthouse Trails, November 18, 2009) - "Lighthouse Trails recently reported on the fact that Joel Rosenberg and Frank Peretti have been slated to speak at the upcoming Break Forth conference in Alberta, Canada. They will be sharing the stage with New Age sympathizers, and mystic/emerging proponents, such as William Paul Young (The Shack), Leonard Sweet (Quantum Spirituality), and contemplative proponents such as Duffy Robbins (Enjoy the Silence) and Brad Jersak."
WHY are Joel Rosenberg and Frank Peretti Appearing With New Age/New Spirituality Sympathizers? (By Lighthouse Trails, November 9, 2009) - "Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils. (I Corinthians 10:21)." Why are so many Christian leaders continually appearing with personalities who claim to be Christian yet promote the heretical “new spirituality”? In January 2010, in Alberta, Canada, such a situation will take place at the Break Forth conference, bringing together a conglomeration of Christian figures, New Age sympathizers, and mystic/emerging proponents. From Joel Rosenberg (Epicenter), Frank Peretti (This Present Darkness), and Lee Strobel (The Case for Christ) to William Paul Young (The Shack), Leonard Sweet (Quantum Spirituality), and contemplative proponents such as Duffy Robbins (Enjoy the Silence) and Brad Jersak, Break Forth will be like drawing gray lines in the sand–blended, indistinguishable lines."
Calvary Chapel’s Chuck Smith Says Sharing Platform [with Rick Warren] "Would Be Divisive” Pastors Perspective with Don Stewart (Chuck Smith "last night I, uh was on the platform...it would be divisive") - Aug 17, 2009.
2009 National Worship Conference Brings Contemplatives, Laurie, and Sweet Together (By Lighthouse Trails, August 9, 2009) - "The 2009 National Worship Leader Conference took place on July 20-23 in Leawood, Kansas and brought together a convergence of contemplative/emerging speakers...Some will probably wonder though why popular trusted figures like Calvary Chapel’s Greg Laurie, 70s Jesus movement singer Evie, and Love Song lead singer, Chuck Girard, were part of the speaking/singing platform too. That’s a good question considering the number of speakers at the event who were hearty advocates for the contemplative new spirituality: some of those included Leonard Sweet, Chuck Fromm (founder of the event and of Worship Leader magazine), emerging leader Sally Morgenthaler, Brennan Manning proponent Michael W. Smith, the pro-contemplative David Crowder Band, contemplative/emerging Marva Dawn, Alpha Course leader and contemplative proponent Todd Hunter, and others."
2009 Summer/Fall Christian Conferences Provide Platform for Contemplative/Emerging Speakers (By Lighthouse Trails, June 16, 2009) - "Many Christian-led conferences taking place throughout North America during the summer and fall of 2009 are providing platforms for speakers who are helping to further the new spirituality. In many conferences, the speaker line-ups are a blending of non-emerging/non-contemplative speakers with those who are of that camp. Doing this gives an unmerited credibility to the teachings of the contemplative/emerging speakers. While some say there is nothing wrong with Christian teachers sharing the platform with those who promote a false approach to God (i.e., mysticism), the Bible is clear that “A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump” (Galatians 5:9). And by silently standing with the wayward teacher, one must now share the responsibility of his or her error."
SPECIAL REPORT: Calvary Chapel Termination Has Profound Implications (By Lighthouse Trails, May 19, 2009) - Lighthouse Trails regrets to report that on May 5th, Paul Smith, brother of Chuck Smith (the founder of the Calvary Chapel movement), was fired from his position in the Calvary Chapel (CCOF) organization during an unscheduled meeting that day. The motion to fire Paul Smith was made by board member Roger Wing and seconded by Chuck Smith’s son-in-law, Brian Broderson. Other board members affirmed the motion, and Paul Smith was dismissed."

2009 National Youth Workers Convention Should be Avoided (By Lighthouse Trails, May 10, 2009) - "The 2009 National Youth Workers Convention will take place this coming Fall in three major US cities. The conference is presented annually by Youth Specialties. As we have stated before, this is one youth worker convention that should be avoided. Attendees will receive a hearty dose of contemplative/emerging spirituality. Books, DVDs, seminars, and more will strongly radiate this theme. In addition, many of the speakers are in this camp. Sadly, youth workers receiving training at the convention will take back to their youth groups the things they have learned."
“The First Ever Catholic-Emergent Conference” Erroneously Advertised (By Lighthouse Trails, May 5, 2009) - "On March 20-22, what is being called “the first-ever Catholic-Emergent conference” will take place. The name of the conference is The Emerging Church: Conversations, Convergence and Action. Spencer Burke, of the Ooze, calls it “one of the magical moments in this movement of God.”"
Contemplative Christians and Contemplative Conferences Coming Your Way (By Lighthouse Trails, October 28, 2008) - "The following conferences will be taking place during the next 12 months. Each of these conferences has at least one contemplative- and/or emerging church-promoting speaker. The number of these contemplative conferences is increasing rapidly. Please warn your loved ones about these events."
Crystal Cathedral Postpones Rethink 2009 – Ravi Zacharias and Dan Kimball Will Have to Wait Until 2010 (By Lighthouse Trails, October 13, 2008) - "A notice has been placed on the Rethink Conference website stating the following: At the request of Crystal Cathedral, Rethink 2009 has been postponed to 2010. Update on Alistair Begg/Reimagine Conference (By Lighthouse Trails, August 20h, 2008) - "On August 19th, someone from the CCCA office contacted Lighthouse Trails to confirm that Alistair Begg would not be speaking at the Reimagine Conference. His name has now been removed from the Reimagine website. We were also told by that CCCA hoped to replace him with another solid teacher. (Click here to read full story.)"
Alistair Begg Withdraws from Reimagine Conference with Leonard Sweet (By Lighthouse Trails, August 16, 2008) - "The Reimagine Conference, which will be held in December and hosted by the CCCA (Christian Camp and Conference Association), is featuring New Age sympathizer and mystic proponent Leonard Sweet. Widely popular and trusted teacher and pastor,Alistair Begg is also scheduled to be one of the speakers, but according to an assistant at Begg’s office, Begg has withdrawn from the conference. Lighthouse Trails spoke with Begg’s office last week about the spirituality of Leonard Sweet. Begg’s assistant contacted Lighthouse Trails on August 15th and said: “After prayerful consideration, as of today Alistair has respectfully asked to be removed as one of the speakers at the Reimagine Conference in December.”

Quantum Alchemy (By Jackie Alnor, Apostasy Alert) Chuck MIssler speaks at Quantum Leap 2 Conference (2007) with false teachers David van Koevering, JoAnn McFatter, Steve Swanson.] - "In last week’s Reflection, I introduced you to the leaders of The Gateway Christian Fellowship who have announced the Latter Rain has begun in Idaho with the signs of falling gems. Next month, July 19-21, 2007, they will be co-sponsoring a conference, along with Elijah List, with a roster of speakers who can take people to the next step in their spiritual quest for God’s glory. The list of speakers is mysterious in and of itself."
How to Know When the Emerging Church Shows Signs of Emerging in Your Church (By Roger Oakland,December 18, 2006) - "The world is changing. So is the Christian evangelical church. There was a time–not that long ago–when the Bible was considered to be the Word of God by the majority of evangelical Christians. Now that we are well into the third millennium and the post-modern, post-Christian era, the term evangelical can mean almost anything. What has happened? Why is this happening and what is the future for mainstream Christianity?"
Purpose Driven Conflicts with Calvary Chapel's beliefs - Special Report: Why Calvary Chapel Dropped Purpose Driven (Lighthouse Trails, July 17, 2006)
Rick Warren's promotion of mysticism and his teachings on the end times will keep Purpose Driven out of Calvary Chapel.
This Special Report is a follow up to our previous report Calvary Chapel Rejects Purpose Driven and Emerging Spirituality (June 16th, 2006). July 17, 2006- Today, Roger Oakland, a Bible-teacher and evangelist to Calvary Chapel, released a hard-hitting commentary, explaining the reasons why Calvary Chapel recently pulled Purpose Driven materials from their distribution store. Calvary Chapel leadership had surprised many last month when they issued a recall notice, saying: "The teaching and positions of Rick Warren have come into conflict with us at Calvary Chapel."
Today's analysis by Roger Oakland is a powerful and accurate assessment of the Purpose Driven teachings and evidence that cannot be ignored. It is the hope of Lighthouse Trails that this information will aid many believers in their efforts to preserve the integrity of the gospel in their churches and homes. And we believe once you have read Mr. Oakland's review, you will agree with us that Purpose Driven does not represent biblical Christianity.

Calvary Chapel Rejects Contemplative and Emergent Spirituality! (Lighthouse Trails reporting on May, 26, 2006) - "May 21, 2006 - This weekend, a position paper addressed to pastors was posted on the Calvary Chapel website. The paper indicates that Calvary Chapel is taking a stand against contemplative spirituality and the emerging church and decrees that the title Calvary Chapel not be attached to such movements. The statement comes on the heels of a recent discovery by Pastor Chuck Smith, the movement's founder, that his book, When Storms Come, had been tampered with unbeknownst to him. The book was published by Thomas Nelson and included contemplative and Eastern meditation language, which apparently had been added by someone doing the final editing of the book."
